photographing St. Louis brothers

I had SO much fun photographing these brothers.  They had the sweetest personalities.  I knew it was going to be a great time when I arrived and the oldest asked me to refer to him as “captain america.”  That tells me the child is already relaxed and ready to play!  And when little boys are ready to play and you put them in the perfect outdoor setting it all comes together.  Photographing the spirit of childhood is my favorite thing to do and this outdoor session was just that, boys being boys!

It also gets me excited when Mom likes fashion and when this mama found out that I’d help her put outfits together, she showed up with her front seat full of J.Crew and said, “here, just tell me what to put on them.”  MY DREAM!!

Don’t forget that Melanie Acker photography also has fashion/styling consultation services available.  Meghan is so good at what she does and clients love working with her.  You can see her bio here.

Flash Drives for Digital Photography St. Louis

I’m excited about a photography product change that I’ve made starting for the 2013 calendar year. I’ve always offered a digital collection for those clients who want to have a copy of their images to keep on their own computers digitally.  Up to this point, if you purchase the digital collection, the images of the session were delivered on a custom CD disk.  Well, that has changed.  I have done away with CD’s and now have custom Melanie Acker photography flash drives.  (and on a side note, I think they are pretty cute)

I have quite a few good reasons for making this change, such as easier delivery, less packaging (and waste), quicker processing for me because I can just drag & drop images without having to wait to burn everything. And while all of those reasons are very good, it was not the primary reason for the switch.  Bottom line is technology.  Plain and simple, keeping up with technology is important.  That’s why I invest in the best camera & processing equipment for my business and I know the latest technology is important to my clients too.  Many laptops do not even offer disc drives - specifically Apple.  This factor alone was enough to make me realize that it was time for a change!

So from now on, all clients that purchase the digital collection for their photography session, regardless if it is a wedding, high school senior session, or family session will receive those images on a flash drive.  HERE is more information on what is included in the digital package and the investment.

Enjoy!  . . . . and I just can’t resist saying, “LET’S GO CARDS” when it’s opening day.:)

child photography greater St. Louis

I have one more of my fav fall sessions I realized I forgot to blog and it will probably go up next week but before I do that I can’t believe I never showed the fall photographs of my babies!  Well, you can see they really aren’t babies anymore but it’s hard not to think of them that way.  They truly are needing me less and less these days and I can’t even wrap my head around the fact that after this summer they will both be in school all day. On a side note, I should mention that if you are looking for the BEST private school around, check out Willott Road Christian Academy!  They have classes from age 3 up until grade 8. The teachers are amazing and my kiddos are becoming such wonderful “little people” under their academic direction.  They are accepting enrollment now for the 2013-2014 year so stop by and take a tour today!

I’m getting excited about my spring session line up!  Please don’t wait until the last minute to call if you are looking to set up a high school senior, engagment, or children’s session.  Now is the time to call or email me – melanieacker@hotmail.com

I’m SO ready for the weather to warm up and everything to “green up” so outdoor sessions can start again, common spring!:)

New Towne St. Charles engagement session

We were so lucky to have one of those random 65 degree days here in St. Louis, right before fall ended . . . . and that just happened to be the day this outdoor engagement session was scheduled. Although it’s ok if it’s a little chilly for an engagement session because then you just have to snuggle a little more.  Let’s be honest, no one really minds that!  I also found this unique, quiet, rustic location for us to photograph at . .  that was also perfect!  It was just outside of busy streets and neighborhoods and gave us just the privacy we needed to capture these authentic images.

This session was under tight raps because the images were given as surprise gifts to family for Christmas.  That meant no previews!  Wasn’t that a great idea?!  And from what I hear it was worth it and everyone loved them.  And now time for them to be able to see a few more.  Kevin & Nancy I cannot wait to capture your wedding day soon! It will be here before we know it!

Fall Family Photo Session, Chesterfield

I find myself smiling from ear to ear just getting these images ready to blog.  This family was exploding with love, really! Take a look at the image of mom & dad together . . . it looks like an engagement session image because they are that in love, STILL.  Dad had been traveling all week and had just got home right before our session and little connor could not get enough hugs from Dad.  I have always said that photography is a little like make up.  (where am I going with this, right?)  Well, make up cannot make some beautiful.  It can only enhance the beauty that already exists.  It’s the same with photography.  I cannot create emotion and love through my camera if it’s not already there.  But let me tell you that when it’s there it’s undeniable in images.  And that  is what you will feel as you look through this sweet family’s photographs.

On a side note, Sheri is SO super kind.  She took the time after getting her order to email me this note:

Hi Melanie,

Just wanted to let you know how happy my husband and I are with everything – we love it all! Also, thank you for the extra little gifts! Hope you have a wonderful holiday. We’ll be in touch in the future.:)

I hope you don’t mind me sharing that, Sheri.  But truly there is nothing more satisfying than a happy client who appreciates my work and lets me know!

Up next I’ll be blogging a cute engagement session so check back!

outdoor children’s session in Chesterfield, MO

There’s a soft spot in my heart for photographing sisters of any age.  I have a sister and so when I see precious little girls I just get excited for them because I know in 15 or 20 years from now what a special relationship they will have.  A sister bond is just unbreakable!  (after you get past the teenage years of course)  I’ve also been photographing this family since the oldest girl was about three months old! So it’s always fun to see them grow.  Not to mention that their mom always has the cutest outfits for them to wear.  I just love this little Matilda Jane dress and lace socks.  So cute and vintage looking.

Take a quick look at some of their past sessions here and here. . .  . you won’t believe how she’s changed!

high school senior portraits, MICDS

I’ve been off this blog for awhile.  It’s pretty predictable . . . .the fall photo rush comes, then Christmas and well, I just don’t have the time to post until after the new year!  It becomes more important to get galleries finished, and orders delivered.  I’m excited to share some of my favorite photo sessions from the fall on here and I cannot wait for all that 2013 will hold. And I cannot wait until it get warmer so I can get outside to shoot again, ha.

First up is the beautiful, Arielle.  She is a high school senior at Mary Institute and Saint Louis County Day School (MICDS) in St. Louis.  I’m just going to start by warning you that it’s impossible NOT to have “hair envy” after seeing her images.  She has the most perfect red hair that I have ever seen. . . .really, it’s STUNNING!  But what I love is that even the short amount of time I got to spend with Arielle it’s evident that she is beautiful on the inside.  So kind and smart!  This gal’s going places, no doubt.

On a side note, Arielle had Meghan, from Cheeky Chic, work with her to help with styling.  Don’t forget that is a service exclusive to Melanie Acker photography clients.  She does an awesome job!  When you look & feel your best, that confidence shines in front of the camera!

Enjoy viewing this high school senior’s photographs and check back to see some more of my favorite sessions from 2102 up in the coming weeks!

outdoor sibbling photography St. Louis, MO

This outdoor sibbling session completely makes me want to do back-flips! Why, you ask?  Because I “get” how hard it is to capture a shot of a 19mo old and a 3 year old together.  My children are 17mo apart and I remember those ages well.  Sitting in one place for longer than a second just generally doesn’t happen.

These are just a few of my favorites. Leigh Ann, I hope you will love them as much as I do.  I’m pretty sure we got your Christmas cards taken care of, ha!  Now YOU can go do the back-flips.:)  Can’t wait to show you the rest.

wentzville high school senior portraits

Take a peek at Alexis and her high school senior portraits – stunning!  I loved that her mom wanted it to be a fun, special day for her so she gifted her with a hair & makeup package at the Salon De Christe’ in St. Charles.  I highly recommend doing this for any session, but particular Senior portraits.  First off, you will feel great and your best self! But a professional makeup artist also knows how to apply makeup in such a way as to reflect your personality, while still deminishing blemishes and smoothing skin.  The end result is FANTASTIC!!

outdoor, fall photo session

One reason that I love clients who use me every year is that I get to watch them grow! After awhile they begin to feel like family and that is how I feel about these guys. The little one went from a “baby” to a “little boy” and I couldn’t believe how much of a cute personality he has now. You can check out last years fall photo session and his cute baby curls here.

I also loved that mom worked with Meghan at Cheek Chic Studios,  to put the styling together for this session. What a huge help – Awesome job!

check out much fun we had playing and all the grins, giggles and love . . . .

family photo session

This “little” preview isn’t very little!  I love SO many of the shots but just wanted to get some up for you, Danette.  I know you’re excited to see.  Can’t wait to show you the rest of the images.  Thank you again for driving 2 hours to see me!  Such a blessing for me to be able to spend the evening with you and capture your beautiful family – TRULY beautiful inside and out!

family photography, St. Louis and St. Charles

SO much  cuteness in this family right here!  And yes they are a beautiful family and yes, their styling is adorable but more than that they are the kindest, sweetest family!  I loved spending the evening photographing them and I really would have liked to just scoop up the little girl and take her home with me. But they didn’t take me up on my offer and I don’t blame them.:)  There are quite a few images here but it’s worth taking the time to look through – I don’t think any of them could have taken a bad photograph!

photographing more brothers – creve couer, MO

To me there is nothing better than capturing emotion, particularly love, with my camera . . . . the bond between a mother and her newborn or the way a newly engaged couple gazes at each other.  The giggles of siblings tickling each other or the shy gazes of timid children.  These are the times we want to remember forever!   This session Ienjoyed seeing the relationship of a mother and sons.  As these images reflect, there was a lot of love.

Don’t get me wrong – it can take a lot of work and patience to get children to feel comfortable with me to actually be “able” to get these kind of moments. And this session was no exception, but when they happen it’s priceless and a privilege to give these memories to clients through photographs.

O’Fallon, Missouri kids photography

This session was so fun because first, I got to capture this little guy again. And this time he is TWO! Here are images from his previous session and he just keeps getting cuter.  And second, I was also honored to be invited on location to shoot at their private property.  Sitting  just outside of town, it is such a peaceful, relaxful respite from the city.  Who wouldn’t want to sit on your vintage tree swing and stare at the pond in front of you or the horses behind you.  THANK you, Melissa for letting me  play with your boys for a few hours. I love the images we were able to get!

look how much this horse LOVES him – it snuggled right up into his neck.

sunflower field, St. Louis and St. Charles Missouri

This gorgeous field of sunflowers is absolutely perfect right now!  Let me know if you would like your session at this field VERY soon as these blooms won’t be around too much longer . . . . and they are just breathtaking.
